Coiled Rope Basket

with Stella Mitchell

Saturday 11th May

Create a unique rope basket from cord and scrap fabrics.

The session begins with a simple coaster to learn the technique, moving on to create a basket adding strips of scrap fabrics along the way. This is a great way of using up your stash! Quilting cotton works best and the amount will depend on how much you want to add to your basket. The length of the pieces doesn't matter, but they do need to be at least 1.5" wide.

Stella will supply all the cord you need to make the coaster and basket, the leather handles and a small piece of leather to finish off. You will need to supply the thread - this can either be an off white which will blend in with the basket and not be seen, or if you are looking to add more colour, you can use a coloured thread to create extra pattern. Make sure to bring a couple of bobbins ready to go in your chosen colour as you will use a fair amount of thread!

Bring on the day:

Sewing machine with regular foot

Thread

Small iron and board (if you have one, I will have one spare and there's just a small amount of ironing to do)

Scissors

Hand needle

Quilting clips or pegs

Fabric scraps - half a metre is plenty
